The most important reason to maintain your hormone levels is to keep your true self alive.

People say this to me, very commonly:  “I don’t feel like myself”  The person’s heart is still beating, lungs are breathing and he/she is walking around, but the inner self, the real personality, may seem flattened in menopause/andropause.  Drive and energy, sexual libido, muscular strength, bone strength, and ability to maintain weight are all functions that may be reduced or totally gone with lack of sexual hormones.

Drinking more water, exercising more, or even a keto-diet will not substitute for life-giving hormones.  Synthetic drugs and antidepressants do not treat the underlying cause.

Testosterone prescription for opioid-dependent men and women with symptoms of low testosterone has been shown to have benefits far greater than merely enhancing libido!

“Testosterone enhances analgesia, healing, & the immune response.  It also is critical for the prevention of osteoporosis, depression, and immobility.” Practical Pain Management, Nov./Dec. 2013 Volume 12, Issue #10

If you live in pain, get your testosterone blood levels tested and get those numbers in the range of a young adult.  It’s hormone blood levels obtained from blood, not “spit testing”.   You can order your own labs at www.lef.org  or www.anylabtestnow.com.

Progesterone, the balancer hormone to estradiol, promotes calmness, sleep, deep relaxation, and libido.  Progesterone promotes the feeling of acceptance, “I want you, come to me” in the marital act.  Without sleep, exhaustion rules the day.  When exhausted, memory suffers. For pre-menopausal women, progesterone may be the key to resolving night sweats and insomnia, as long as estradiol levels remain adequate.

Estradiol provides benefits affecting nearly every organ in the body.  Science knows the average blood level of the young pre-menopausal woman, we can obtain the postmenopausal woman’s labs and then prescribe hormones to bring her into that beneficial range.

Some people should not take hormones:  people with a palpable breast or prostate nodule, untreated severe obstructed sleep apnea, and men who want to preserve fertility, since testosterone may decrease fertility.  The truth is, we can get cancer, heart attack, or stroke whether we do/do not take hormones, and some studies indicate hormones increase the risk.
